About the project#

wadalōn is the effort to revive a NEC MobilePro 900, a Windows CE handheld PC from the early 2000s, around a Raspberry Pi 4. The project started as "!NEC MP900", was renamed "!NEC MPi400" and finally got its current name to avoid any conflict with the original trademark.

The name is an Old High German verb meaning to wander, to roam — a fitting title for a portable that gets a second life.

The project covers the complete disassembly of the device, the reverse engineering of its keyboard matrix (custom PCB with QMK firmware) and collects all assets — 3D models, Gerber files, Linux kernel tree — in the wadalōn git repository.
